It’s hard to get past the idea that artists make things that are
unlike everything that came before. Instead, I think artists are
actually editors. They edit the world, finding useful moments, and
connections between useful moments, twisting and combining them in

Ideally, those of us with lots of experience in traditional techniques
should expand our tool set whenever and however appropriate.
Likewise, those of us who concentrate on developing new tools should
not ignore the value in traditional techniques and traditional sounds.
That would be like saying the electric guitar has no value for use in
